I remember you and your daughter well. I am a teacher on Bainbridge Island, near Seattle. How are you and what have you been doing for 20 years? I am very happy to see that you have found your way to this site. The Park would not have succeeded without your directions. How is Natalia?

Building the Peace Park in Tashkent
About Me:
For more than 40 years I have worked in Tashkent, taking part in various construction projects, including the restoration of Tashkent after the destructive earth quake on April, 26th, 1966.

Through these years I supervised many large organizations and labor collectives contributing to the construction of large memorial complexes that are visited daily by tourists and visitors of the capital of Uzbekistan.

However, the most significant and memorable collaboration that I have had a privilege to supervise is the Seattle / Tashkent Peace park.

Here, I witnessed Soviet and American colleagues working closely together, uniting under the idea of peace as the symbol of international friendship.

I think you will find it interesting to know that I spent seven of my childhood years in a Concentration Camp of Stalin's Gulag in the Far North. So, working with Americans on this symbol of peace was an emotional rehabilitation for me.

Moreover, Americans visited my house in Tashkent throughout the construction of the park. My family and I still warmly remember nearly all American participants in the park construction. My daughter Natasha made many friends when she volunteered to work in the park, she still remembers them fondly.

Personally, I worked very closely with both Soviet and American authors of the Seattle / Tashkent project. My friend, Architect Leon Adamov and I are still in communication here in the United States.

I especially want to acknowledge the selfless labor of Mr. Dane Spencer and for his sense of responsibility and attitude toward his work, as I am in continuing communication with him. Very warm feelings remain from my work with the American construction superintendent, Mr. Ron Naddy, and with prof. Arthur Rice and project heads Mrs. Rosanne Royer and Mr. Fred Noland.

Finally, I am sure that the Peace Park in Seattle and the Peace Park in Tashkent are true symbols of friendship between our people. It is my wish that these two Peace Parks become known as the best tools in restoring our positive image of the United States, here and all over the world.
